Accepting an invitation

This page is for you if your manager just added you to a ScreenJournal organisation. It walks you through everything from opening the invitation email to running the tracker for the first time.

What you'll need

  • A computer with macOS (recent version) or Windows.
  • Your work email and the password you choose for ScreenJournal.
  • 5–10 minutes for the first install and sign-in.

Step 1 — Open the invitation

Your manager invited you through one of these channels. Pick the one that matches what you received:

You got an email from ScreenJournal

The email reads roughly:

"Your manager has invited you to join ScreenJournal."

Click the Sign up button (or the equivalent link in the email). You'll land on a sign-up page that already knows which organisation you're joining.

Click the link. You'll land on the same sign-up page; the link already encodes which organisation you're joining (and possibly which team).

Your manager gave you a short join code

Open the ScreenJournal sign-up page (your manager will tell you where), pick I have a join code, and paste the code.

Step 2 — Create your account

On the sign-up page, fill in:

  • Your full name — what your manager and teammates will see in the dashboard.
  • Your work email — this becomes your login.
  • A password — pick something strong. The same password is used for both the web dashboard and the desktop tracker.

Submit the form. You're signed in immediately and you're now a member of your manager's ScreenJournal organisation.

Step 3 — Find the Downloads page

From the web app, find the Downloads link (it's usually in the top navigation or footer). The page detects your operating system and shows you the right installer:

  • macOS → a .dmg file.
  • Windows → an .exe or .msi installer.

Download the file. Continue with Installing the tracker.

Step 4 — What happens after you install

Once the tracker is installed and you've signed in:

  1. The tracker picks up the desktop policy your manager has configured for your organisation.
  2. You'll see a big Play button. Press it when you start your workday.
  3. The tracker stays in your menu bar (macOS) or system tray (Windows). Click the icon to pause or check status.

For the day-to-day flow, see Daily use.

What your manager will see

Right after you sign up, your manager sees a new row appear in their Members page with your name and email. As soon as you press Play in the tracker, segments of your day start filling in on their Activity page.

Before you start, it's worth reading what is and isn't recorded. It's short and it answers most of the questions people have on day one.
