Manager quick start
A five-minute version of the end-to-end flow, for the manager who already knows roughly what ScreenJournal does and just wants to get the team tracking today.
1. Register your organisation
- Go to the ScreenJournal web app and choose Sign up.
- Pick the Business / organisation option.
- Fill in: organisation name, your name, work email, password.
- Submit. You land in the two-step onboarding wizard.
The account you just created is the owner of the new organisation.
→ Details: Register your organisation.
2. Invite your first employees
You're now on Step 1 of onboarding — Invite people. You have three options (pick any combination):
- Type their email addresses and hit Send invites. Each person gets an email with a sign-up link tied to your org.
- Copy the org-wide invite link and paste it into Slack/Teams/email.
- Create a team, then copy that team's invite link or join code so anyone who follows it lands in the right team.
→ Details: Invite your team.
3. Activate the trial
Step 2 of onboarding activates the free trial. No credit card is required. Once activated, your employees' trackers will be allowed to sync activity to your dashboard.
4. Tell your team what to do
Send your employees this one-paragraph message (it covers the rest of the flow on their end):
"You'll get an invitation email from ScreenJournal. Click the link in it to sign up. After signing up, open the Downloads page on the web app and install the desktop tracker for your OS. Sign in to the tracker with the same email and password, then press the Play button when you start work."
For a longer version they can read themselves, point them at the Employee accepting-invite guide.
5. Configure your desktop policy
While employees install the tracker, open Settings → Desktop policy in the sidebar. At minimum, decide on:
- Recording modes — do you want screen video saved, or only analysed? Do you want meeting audio captured?
- Sensitive-app exclusions — which categories (Banking, Payroll, HR, Health) should be censored automatically?
- Forced features — do you want the tracker to be impossible to pause or quit?
- Retention — how many days of recordings stay on each employee's device?
You can change any of these later; updates propagate to running trackers within a few minutes.
→ Details: Desktop policy overview.
6. Open the dashboard
Once one or more employees are running the tracker, open the Activity page in the sidebar. Pick an employee from the selector and you'll see their day build up as a colour-coded timeline. Switch to the Ranking tab to compare the whole team for the current week.
→ Details: Dashboard tour.
